REVIEW: The Ghost by Robert Harris

The Ghost by Robert Harris is another great novel from the master of the historical fiction.  Set in the present day and told in the first peson, our story began with a retelling of the mysterious death of Mike McAra, the first ghostwriter working on the memoirs of former British PM, Adam Lang.  Now enter our protagonist, who was then commissioned to complete the unfinished memoirs.  Set in Martha’s Vineyard during the winter time, the place was desolate and provided the perfect backdrop for the impending mystery.

I love the part where Adam Lang and The Ghost first started working on the memoirs.  The dialogue was crisp and I can just imagine Pierce Brosnan conversing with Ewan McGregor.  In my mind, I even read their lines with a British accent.  Some of the best parts of the novel involved conversations between the two.  Adam Lang was later revealed to be accused of collaborating with the CIA in handing over several suspected territorists for torture.  Remember, this was post-9/11 and paranoia ran high and the War on Terror was just starting to escalate.

REVIEW: The Ghost War by Alex Berenson

Alex Berenson's The Ghost War is the first spy thriller book that I’ve completed reading.  I’ve tried to read several times before, mostly Clancy stuff like Rainbow Six and Without Remorse, but I almost always ends up abandoning them.  But this time it’s different.  The story just grabbed me and never let go till the epilogue.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post here, I’ve never known Alex Berenson before discovering The Ghost War.  But now that I’ve read it, I’ll be on the lookout for the next Berenson novel.  Actually, I’ve yet to read the first one, The Faithful Spy.  There were several references to the first novel but they were not a hindrance to the novel’s full enjoyment even if you haven’t read the first book.  It would be interesting for me to read The Faithful Spy since I will be now be able to connect the referenced events to the actual events.  It will be just like reading a prequel :)

REVIEW: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Graphic Novel/iOS App)

I haven't read much of Star Wars comics or novels. For me, Star Wars exists only in the movies. But now and then a Star Wars event will happen that would be hard for everyone to ignore. The Force Unleashed is one such event. The hype for The Force Unleashed is so massive that it's like a big movie event, without the actual movie of course. It is practically everywhere -- games on all platforms, comics, novels, etc.

I'm intrigued by the story of Darth Vader taking on an apprentice. With hopes running high, I tried the Xbox 360 version of the game. One might think that with a game that lets you play as Vader during the opening stage, it could do no wrong. But that was a wrong assumption. The gameplay quickly became an exercise in tedium and felt like a God of War wannabe. So I stopped playing it. But the intrigue of the story never left me. I kept on wondering what happened to Vader's apprentice.

Greetings!

Hello fellow bookworms!  I'm now creating another blog about one of my passions -- book reading and collecting (and that includes comic books!).  In here I would post some of my collections, reviews of some of the books that I've read, some books that I'm planning to read and book covers that I love.

I'm not one of the fastest readers around so my books tend to accumulate without me being able to read most of them.  Even so, I'm still having a great time just by collecting them.  And my favorite hunting ground for great books is none other than your friendly, neighboorhood budget bookstore -- Book Sale (http://www.booksale.com.ph).

You might say that there are larger bookstores with all the books that money could buy like Fully Booked or National Book Store.  But for me the fun is in the discovery.  Nothing really compares to the joy and surprise of finding a really good book after digging and scouring your way among several stacks in Book Sale.

There's not much challenge in just getting the book from the shelf and taking it to the counter, like what you would normally do in those big bookstores.  What I love most of all is the thrill of checking out the different Book Sale branches and hunting the books that would complete my collection or discovering entirely new ones that are to my liking.

BTW, I'll be reposting some of my posts from my previous book-related blog (http://pinoybookhunter.wordpress.com) here.  I used to love Wordpress since it's way better than the old Blogger but since Google started making great improvements, I'm back in Blogger's loving arms again! :)

Well, that's all for my foreword.  Happy reading to everyone!
